The 12U level is the beginning of fastpitch play. Players will pitch to and face live pitchers in games. The 12U level is for girls from 11 & 12 years old with birthdays between May 1, 2012, and April 30, 2014.
This age group continues to focus on the development of key playing skills of softball to include throwing, catching, hitting, fielding and base running and introduces pitching with the proper mechanics and hitting against live pitching. More in-depth team and positional strategies are learned while gaining a knowledge of the fastpitch game.
New for 2025, the Girls 12U team(s) will play in the Upper Valley League which includes teams from Grand Forks, Larimore, Mayville, Northwood, and Thompson. Currently the 12U league will play double-header games on Wednesday evenings. We will likely have both home and away games. Parents will be responsible for getting players to out-of-town games. We will also try to schedule a few games against area teams. We will form teams based on the number of players registered and number of volunteer parent coaches. An evaluation session to determine teams may be scheduled if needed in early May.
We are looking for parent volunteers to coach. If interested, please call the Parks & Recreation Office, 218-773-8000, prior to registering to get setup as a coach.
Girls 12U softball will run two days per week, Mondays and Wednesdays. Practices will generally be on Mondays with games on Wednesdays. Schedules for the entire summer will be posted prior to the first week of practice.
